Time: Monday, June 7 from 16:00 to 17:30
Location: Main hall
Chair: Jean-Paul Le Guigner CRU (FR)

If NRENs mostly offer very high bandwidth and innovative services to the users either directly connected to their backbone or connected through Metropolitan Area Networks, this is not the end of the road. Users are facing the "last mile" syndrome; asking for better local connectivity, requesting mobility support, requiring level-2 services, etc.

This session will give an overview of valuable experiences with technologies like ADSL, DSL, satellite, wireless, etc. used to bridge the gap for distant users, cover innovative technologies to provide level-2 services on MANs, and present the latest results of leading projects on mobility.

Presentations in this session:

  Title Speaker
1. Rolling Out Europe's largest Wireless Campus Gert Meijerink, University of Twente (NL)
2. Virtual Private LAN Service Kireeti Kompella, Juniper Networks (US)
3. An update on UKERNA’s Network Access Development Programme. James Sankar, UKERNA (GB)
