The Internet is becoming an indispensable tool to facilitate open learning. For many years and in many countries, this network application has perhaps received too little attention from the research network community. A number of new initiatives may change this and may serve as a source of inspiration for developments in other countries. In his keynote speech, Vijay Kumar will present the Open Knowledge Initiative (OKI), and its results.

eLearning is an important example of content delivery over the Internet, and video streaming is an important tool for content delivery. In this field, essential issues go beyond technology and include various legal and societal aspects. Copyright issues are among the topics that provoke a great deal of discussion. Eric Huizer will speak on not only technological developments but also legal and societal aspects of Internet applications. In his presentation, he will address in particular various copyright issues related to Internet use.
