Time: Tuesday, June 8 from 09:00 to 10:30
Location: Main hall
Chair: David Chadwick University of Salford (GB)

The EGEE project is just one of the initiatives where Europe aims to be one step ahead of the rest of the world. Dr. Robert Jones of CERN was the technical co-ordinator for the EU-funded DataGrid project and he is now the Technical Director and deputy project leader of the EGEE project. In his presentation, he will describe the state of Grids today and what is driving their rapid development, and he will outline in particular the EGEE plans.

Recent incidents have shown once again that the Internet is not a safe place and does not provide a secure communications infrastructure. Vulnerability and security are therefore important special topics in this year's conference. In his keynote speech, Jaap van Till will present his views on vulnerability in relation to the dynamics of the Internet.

Presentations in this session:

  Title Speaker
1. Grids - the Next Killer Application Robert Jones, CERN (CH)
2. The Internet as a Vital Infrastructure - How can we help it grow stronger? Jaap Van Till, Stratix Consulting B.V. (NL)
