The bandwidth broker architectures introduced to manage DiffServ still have scalability flaws in the handling of large volumes of end-to-end tunnels and workload. In addition, they only provide solutions of inter-domain management and do not consider the characteristics of intra-domain-management. The new signaling approach for intra-domain management presented in this paper utilises existing relationships between service providers and service users, which yields a significant reduction of the number of reservations and the workload of each bandwidth broker. The concept of this signaling proposal will be presented, as well as promising test results as proof of concept. Finally, further ways are sketched to reduce the workload, using cache strategies.
