In order to make most efficient use of its leased dark fiber pairs, SWITCH decided to build its national DWDM backbone in single fiber technology, using bidirectional transmission. The second fiber is now being used for Gigabit Ethernet point-to-point links up to 100km, implemented with off-the-shelf GBICs and custom-built passive optical couplers. Further development is expected to extend this concept to spans up to 150km and speeds of 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

This presentation is part of session "Recent Results I" which starts at Monday, June 7 @ 16:00
