Bandwidth characteristics of network paths are key to optimizing end-to-end performance. A comparative analysis of state-of-the-art active bandwidth estimation techniques and tools is outlined. We also give an overview of a comprehensive series of tests performed over a broad range of bandwidth estimation tools, experimental conditions and scenarios. These tests have been done with the aim to assess the performance of active bandwidth estimation tools on current high performance networks. A set of tools, criteria and practices for the comparative analysis of active bandwidth estimation techniques and tools has been developed. Conclusions drawn from experimental results are summarized.

This presentation is part of session "QoS Tools" which starts at Monday, June 7 @ 16:00
